Goal
This poster was designed for a special exhibition titled Ancient Italy Revealed, held at the National Museum. The exhibition showcases archaeological discoveries, cultural artifacts, and historical narratives from ancient Italian civilizations. The goal was to create a visual piece that evokes curiosity and reverence, while reflecting the timeless elegance and depth of Italian heritage.
Problem Statement
Previous promotional materials for historical exhibitions often lacked emotional resonance and visual impact, especially among younger audiences. The challenge was to move beyond traditional museum aesthetics and create a design that feels immersive, modern, and culturally rich.
Expected Outcome
The poster is intended to elevate the cultural significance of the exhibition by visually translating the sophistication and mystery of ancient Italy. By combining classical motifs with modern design language, the work aims to attract a broader audience—especially younger visitors—while positioning the museum as a space where history meets contemporary relevance
Designed Rational
The color palette— FFFFFF, 000000, and C8C8C8—was chosen to evoke the aged, weathered textures of ancient artifacts. The muted tones reflect the solemnity and mystery of archaeological discovery, while maintaining visual clarity and contrast for digital platforms.
Noto Sans was selected for its clean readability and neutral tone, allowing the visual elements to take precedence while supporting the overall composition. The typography was treated with aged textures and subtle erosion effects to mirror the decay of ancient inscriptions and artifacts.
The layout was designed to evoke the fragmented nature of historical memory and archaeological remains. A crumbling Roman helmet was visually integrated into the composition—its dispersing form symbolizing the erosion of time and inviting viewers to reconstruct meaning. Zigzag slicing of artifacts across posters conceals their full shapes, sparking curiosity and encouraging museum visits. Overall, the structure reinforces a sense of mystery, age, and cultural depth.
